This is a little bit of a boring week for me if I am being honest. Right now, I am starting to cut up fabric in preparation for ironing. By the end of this week, I hope to have 20 pieces cut out and ready for the next steps. The dimensions I am cutting out are 44 inches by 36 inches. I only need about a yard for each pillowcase. I will link the video* I am using to help guide me at the bottom of this blog post. It really has helped me so far, even if I have not actually started the physical sewing process yet. It is easy to follow, and it gives very clear instructions for each step. I hope that I start strong this week by accomplishing my goal.
Weekend Update: It is Sunday and I had a very good outcome for progress on my project this week. I was able to cut out all 20 pieces of fabric! I thought It would take me about 15 minutes to cut out each fabric, allotting time for minor mistakes and little mess-ups. However, luckily, I made very few mistakes, mostly just on my first few pieces, and I was able to get a single piece of fabric done in about 5-10 minutes. This allowed me to accomplish my goal and still have time for other things I wanted to do. I hope to be able to continue with this pace, but I know that next week I have a big project to finish, so I will probably spend the majority of my time on that. I will also post a picture of what I have completed so far once I iron and fold the cut pieces so they are really neat. I am choosing to steam iron each piece because it gets wrinkles out easier and faster than regular ironing. I also will wait to fold the fabric until after it has completely cooled down so I prevent other wrinkles from forming once it is folded. I have decided my goal for next week will be 20 more pieces of cut fabric so I can try to keep up with the rate I am going. *Link to video mentioned above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3obNOWc4Kc

To begin my project, I will be gathering materials and then starting to cut my fabric. I am going to take the first few weeks to cut everything. This way, I will be able to start ironing after this. In addition to that, I typed up a paper to explain to people my project and what they can do if they would like to help. This will be attached in an image below. Also attached below will be a picture of the fabric my mother and I found around my house before buying anything else.
For my timeline, I would like to follow this plan.
Weekend Update: On Sunday, September 20th, my mother and I went to Joann Fabrics with the hopes of finding more patterns that might appeal to boys rather than girls, seeing as the fabrics I already found leaned heavily towards more girly patterns. Lucking, we found many pieces that we were able to use, so now I have fabric that will appeal to both genders. I am eager to begin cutting next week, and I am even more excited to see the final product when I am finished. |
